Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to India hosted an official reception on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day

On May 24, 2022, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to India organized an official reception at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day. The reception was attended by heads of the diplomatic corps, business circles, the public and the media.

Welcoming the guests, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to India Dr. Ashraf Shikhaliyev said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and India. The ambassador noted that in accordance with the Order signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the current year was declared as the Year of Shusha in Azerbaijan and spoke about the important role of this city in Azerbaijani culture. The ambassador also said that Shusha was declared the cultural capital of Turkic countries in 2023, and many cultural events were organized in Shusha.

Speaking about the Azerbaijani-Indian relations, the ambassador said that economic relations between the two countries are developing and a large number of Indian companies operates in Azerbaijan. He noted that in the pre-pandemic period, the number of Indian tourists visiting our country increased sharply, and expressed hope that mutual visits will increase as a result of the forthcoming direct flight between Baku and Delhi. In addition, the ambassador noted with satisfaction the growing interest of Indian film companies in filming in Azerbaijan.

After that the national dances of Azerbaijan was performed.

During reception a photo exhibition promoting the city of Shusha was held and photos about Shusha were presented to the guests at the exhibition. In addition, the guests who attended the event were presented with badges made in the form of Kharibulbul flower, the symbol of Shusha. Also, books and magazines on the history and culture of Azerbaijan, the liberated territories were exhibited during the reception.
